THE NOURISH SPOT

Dawn Kelly

107-05 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard  Jamaica, NY 11433

In 2016, Dawn was on her own health journey after years of weight control issues stemming from bad eating habits. When her corporate public relations job was eliminated, she used her severance to start a "healthy food and beverage haven" in Jamaica.

After she accumulated many miles and expenses driving over 30 minutes each way to the nearest Panera Bread in Woodmere, she knew her own neighborhood could no longer be deprived of healthy choices.

"The idea was divine. I had been praying for something to do after working for more than 30 years in corporate America."

She keeps close ties with the neighborhood, giving out free books to school children, as well as acting as a mentor to brand new small businesses.

Dawn now lives in the same Jamaica home her grandfather bought when he came home from World War II.

THE OFFICE BLACKBOARD

When I started The Nourish Spot back in 2016, it took some months for a build-out. I don't if you know anything about construction, it was one of the most challenging times in the journey of the The Nourish Spot.

Some days, I found myself in the office crying because the outside where we were going to be interacting with customers was taking so long to get ready.

One day, instead of dissolving into a pool of tears, I decided to pray. I decided to pray the demonstrative way. I decided to write my prayer on this wall so I could look at it each and every time I felt down or when things were not necessarily going the way I needed them to go in order for the store to do well.

They're my words and some prayers that I saw that I liked that I modified. I carry my faith wherever I go.

I never took the prayer down.

I DECIDED TO WRITE MY PRAYER ON THIS WALL.
